Wood to most people is a basic material: to burn in a fire, to walk across as a floor, or as a backyard fence.  Whether it's a furniture project or a sculpture, I tend to use simple shapes and designs but select specific pieces of lumber that have unique, intricate graining or color.  The techniques that I apply in creating each piece bring the inner features of the wood, like annual growth rings (grain), natural colors, or tree abnormalities, out to the front of the piece.  When people see my works, I hope they appreciate that each piece of wood is as unique as the shape, structure, location, and color of the formerly living tree that provided it.      Rich Miller - Owner
